Observation Narrative
Plot location: Extending marsh 0.35 miles west of confluence of Milldam Creek and North Landing River. Plot center marked with a 1" white PVC pipe.
Plot is representative of an extensive wind-tidal marsh with relatively low stature and distinctive composition. Eleocharis rostellata, Scirous americanus, and Eleocharis fallax are dominant species, in descending order of importance. Within this matrix, small areas of bare, exposed peat are colonized by dense mats of Eleocharis olivacea. Substrates here, located well away from channels and guts, appear to have a very low nutrient status.
