Observation Narrative ? This narrow zone of Baccharis halimifolia scrub dominates the ecotone between salt marsh and dune upland. The salt marsh here is presently embayed, and as sands continue to accumulate along the western tip of Hog Island, the bay might be cut off from the sea. Halophytes currently dominate, but these species might decline if the bay is cut off.
