Observation Narrative
Forbs dominate the sparse vegetation on this beach. Highest tides inundate the area, and burial by sand and organic debris takes place. The large expanse of overwash sands here represents excellent habitat for a variety of rare breeding birds such as piping plovers, least terns and common terns.
Other plants noted from this beach community by Dueser et al. (1976) include Ammophila breviligulata, Atriplex arenaria, Strophostyles helvula and Xanthium strumarium. Caren Caljouw observed Polygonum glaucum on this beach in 1990.
