Observation Narrative
Polygonum glaucum found on damp overwash sands near the southern end of Myrtle Island. Plants occur on 95-99% sand with shell pavement. Associated plant species include Spartina patens, Ammophila breviligulata, Salsola tragus, Atriplex arenaria and Solidago sempervirens, all with < 2% cover each. About 25-30 plants were found sparsely distributed throughout the extensive, broad overwash zone ca. 75-150 m shoreward of the beach. Most plants found were flowering on this date; several individuals appear to have old stems remaining from last year, although this species is supposedly a strict annual.
Other surface substrate consists of shell.
