Observation Narrative ? A well-developed dune forest composed of Pinus taeda (20-35 m emergent layer), Carya sp., Quercus velutina, Quercus falcata and Acer rubrum occurs on the lee side of old dunes landward at the back-dune shrub thicket. The subcanopy is fairly dense with an abundance of Ilex opaca and Cornus florida. Ilex, Aralia spinosa and ericaceous shrubs (notably Gaylussacia frondosa) are components of an open shrub layer, while Toxicodendron radicans and Smilax bona-nox occupy the herb layer. The herb layer is both sparse and species-poor. Plot located north of Goffigon residence, lee of old dunes south of pond drain.
