Plot location: ca. 90 m upslope of road and 0.35 miles SSE of summit Clark Mountain.
Rock Types Present: metabasalt.
This plot is located in the only fragment of relatively undisturbed second-growth forest found on Clark Mountain. Most of this monadnock supports relatively young, weedy forests heavily dominated by Liriodendron tulipifera, or secondary oak-hickory forests that have been recently cut. The sampled stand has mixed canopy dominance by mixed oaks (Quercus rubra, Quercus alba, Quercus montana, Quercus velutina) and hickories (Carya ovalis, Carya glabra), with Cercis canadensis and Fraxinus americana common in the understory. Woody lianas (Parthenocissus quinquefolia, Toxicodendron radicans) contribute the highest herb-layer cover. This vegetation is similar to that found on other greenstone foothills in the western Piedmont.
