Plot location: just downslope of road and 0.35 miles S of summit of Clark Mountain.
Rock Types Present: metabasalt.
Plot contains oak-hickory forest vegetation similar to plot ORAN001. The habitat of this stand is relatively steep, with many duff-covered boulders and stones. This is one of the few sites in the Virginia Piedmont that supports the montane tree Acer pensylvanicum. Little forest of this quality remains on Clark Mountain, which has been subject to multiple disturbances, including clearing, grazing, extensive cutting, and a large orchard operation.
