Observation Narrative
The northwestern end of this island in the Pamunkey Island supports a stand of Zizaniopsis miliacea, 1.5-2 m tall, over Pontederia cordata, Polygonum spp., and Murdannia keisak. Scattered clumps of Zizaniopsis (ca. 10 sq. m in area) occur throughout the central portion of the island, but the largest contiguous area is located on the northwestern end. The plot lies adjacent to the northwestern terminus of a narrow band of Cephalanthus occidentalis on the southwestern face of the island (toward the principal river channel). It is unclear whether the entire island is inundated diurnally, but this stand almost certainly does. The plot is situated ca. 40 m from the main channel.
Plot permanently marked with PVC stakes.
