Low, fairly diverse marsh dominated by Eleocharis quadrangulata, Pontederia cordata and Leersia oryzoides. Plot is flanked by a small drainage channel on one side and a small stand of Zizaniopsis miliacea and a narrow fringe of Alnus serrulata on the other. The density of Eleocharis decreases toward one side of the plot, where the vegetation grades into lower marsh codominated by Pontederia and Leersia. One tall (ca. 2 m) individual of Schoenoplectus tabernaemontani emerges just outside the plot. There may be lateral drainage of the marsh within the plot. At the time of sampling, ca. 1 hr before high tide, 12 cm of standing water present. The extent of Pontederia - Leersia low marsh (including the plot) is ca. 0.15 ha.
