Observation Narrative ? Much of the arboreal vegetation on the high dunes at the northern end of Parramore Island is too dense and irregularly shaped to lend itself to easy plot sampling. This stand is characteristically codominated by Pinus taeda and Juniperus virginiana, but largely lacks the broad-leaved shrubs Myrica cerifera and Persea palustris. Understory is open and very sparsely vegetated. Most herbs in plot occur near the edge that borders patch of open dune vegetation. Stand contains a few dead Pinus and Juniperus saplings and small trees. Impacts of Hurricane Isabel include numerous downed Pinus branchlets and damage to one larger Juniperus. Also present are several defoliated Smilax stems.
