Observation Narrative
Upper portion of narrow cove just below crest of spur ridge supports small dominance patch of Hybanthus concolor. Cover of this species is concentrated in modules 1 and 10, but to have established these as focal modules along with 2 and 9 would have resulted in overestimate of cover for entire plot. Acer saccharum forms a dense, distinct subcanopy beneath an open overstory co-dominated by Acer and Carya glabra. During sampling, two Ailanthus altissima individuals were uprooted in module 6 and one in module 5.
From Acer saccharum split ca. 1.1 m off ground (boles measure 31 and 32 cm 0.5 m above ground): 3.4 m @ 202 deg to stake A.
0 - 2 - leaf litter
2 - dark brown, moist clay loam; soil forms large clods; some gravel-sized rocks are present, but soil not as stony as soil depth measurements might suggest
