Observation Narrative
Plot location: Ravine slope off Route 629 in Prince Edward-Gallion State Forest [note: a GPS point was taken on the road above the plot].
This ravine is one of the very few I found intact within the state forest. It has many nice sized trees along its length. The ravine bottom itself is very nice, with Liriodendron, Oxydendrum, Carpinus, etc. (See field notes.) The pine plantations on the north side of the ravine come very close to the ravine edge. Although no herbs attain high cover, many approached a cover of 3, or there were many individuals (Polystichum acrostichoides, Dioscorea quaternata, Hydrangea arborescens, etc.). Two very large red oaks and one very large white oak are in plot. See form for sketch of additional habitat information.
