Plot location: ravine slope 1.35 miles SW of junction of routes 651 and 632.
Field estimate from topo: (UTME): 260876 (UTMN): 4257827.
The plot documents a dry-mesic, convex bluff overlooking a deep tributary ravine of the Rappahannock River. Fagus grandifolia and Quercus alba are the most numerous species of a mixed overstory, which also notably includes Betula lenta, a decidedly rare tree in this part of the Piedmont. Ericads - - Kalmia latifolia, Rhododendron periclymenoides, and Vaccinium pallidum - - prevail in the shrub and herb layers.
