The habitat of this plot is a seasonally flooded depression at the extreme head of a small drain in the Mesozoic Danville Basin. The pond is relatively large (ca. 50 x 90 m) and was recently drawn down on the date of sampling. Aerial photos indicate that this wetland was formerly continuous with a forested wetland on the north side of Rt. 604; additional investigations are needed to determine whether construction of the road altered the hydroperiod or mean flooding depth in the sampled habitat. In order to capture the full floristic composition of an extremely sparse herbaceous stratum, this vegetation was sampled with a linear, 8 x 50 m transect rather than a rectangular or square quadrant.
