Observation Narrative
Plot captures lowermost extent of fairly young Quercus montana / Rhododendron catawbiense stand that is characteristic of much of this north-facing slope in the disjunct eastern portion of Poor Mountain NAP. There is some evidence of minor disturbance, including mild crown damage and bent, broken and leaning Rhododendron stems, but no large, extant gaps are present in plot. Density of Rhododendron apparently increases upslope; plot positioned where this species frequently attains heights < 2 m to facilitate navigation.
Quercus montana in module 10 located < 1 m from stake A.
