Observation Narrative
Glade like vegetation on crest of a narrow spur ridge. Woody species seem to be closing in on the open areas. Prescribed burning would no doubt benefit the rare plant populations, several of which appear to be declining. The presence of Carex eburnea, Thuja occidentalis, Physocarpus and Clematis coactilis distinguishes this community from similar occurrences on Elbrook Formation, those supporting Senecio platensis, Parthenium hispidum, Clematis addisonii, Delphinium exaltatum, etc.
Van Alstine et al. recorded these additional species during a visit on 1 September 1991: Corylus cornuta, Viburnum prunifolium, Paxistima canbyi, Silene stellata, Paronychia fastigiata, Salvia lyrata and Helianthus giganteus. Allard recorded these additional species in 1984: Zizia aptera, Dioscorea quaternata, Phlox subulata, Aquilegia canadensis, Asplenium ruta-muriana, Pellaea glabella and Asplenium rhizophyllum.
