Observation Narrative
Very lush, mesophytic forest on well drained, very elevated floodplain terrace. Vegetation resembles an upland basic mesic forest, with Liriodendron tulipifera, Fagus grandifolia, Carya cordiformis, and Juglans nigra sharing overstory dominance, and Acer nigrum dominating the understory. In the spring and early summer, the herb layer is overwhelmingly dominated by a dense and extensive clone of Allium tricoccum. The contrast between the vernal and late-summer aspects of this plot is stunning.
