Observation Narrative
This plot is very representative of the mesic to submesic, mixed forests that cover much of the uplands in Riverbend and Great Falls Parks. The overstory here is a mixed stand of Liriodendron tulipifera, Fagus grandifolia, Quercus montana, Quercus rubra, and a little Carya alba. Fagus greatly dominates the understory layers. The herb layer is characterized by patch-dominance of the ferns Polystichum acrostichoides and Thelypteris noveboracensis.
