Observation Narrative
Small remnant of a Nonriverine saturated forest with large Quercus phellos and Quercus pagoda in a matrix of disturbed Liquidambar styraciflua / Microstegium vimineum on a wide floodplain adjacent to a large Beaver wetland. Many trees in the stand are multi-trunked. It is likely that entire floodplain was cleared and grazed in the past. This sample may represent trees that were left in a pasture. This portion of the alluvial plain has not received overland flooding for some time and is functionally "non-riverine" but historically may have been in the active floodplain.
