Observation Narrative ? Flat plateau that was formerly cleared. Large area of Oak / Heath with inclusions of Pinus regeneration. Plot is representative of larger stand. Soil may have shrink/swell properties as small areas throughout stand indicate subsurface moisture. Overall stand is Oak / Heath Forest but heath cover varies from sparse to moderately dense. The canopy is Quercus alba mixed with Quercus velutina, Quercus falcata, and occasionally Quercus michauxii and Quercus stellata. Ilex opaca is common throughout as a subcanopy component and Vitis rotundifolia dominants in some areas of the stand, but not in the sample.
