Observation Narrative
Geology includes a great variety of formations. The rock at the site appeared to be dolomite. Plot situated on a dry, rocky ridge crest in thin, glade-like forest, a few meters east of repelling platform. Microhabitats within the plot range from bare rock to mineral soil and from sunny openings to shaded slopes. These microhabitats are so small and interdigitate in such a complex manner that it was not practical to sample them individually. The level area immediately above the plot had no Carex eburnea, Galium boreale, etc., which are abundant on the slope/plot. Plants found only on the level summit included Scutellaria parvula var. leonardii, Desmodium rotundifolium, Symphoricarpos orbiculatus, Polygala senega, Gonolobus obliquus and much Comandra umbellata.
Trees measured in plot (dbh in cm): Quercus muhlenbergii (26), Carya ovata (33).
