Observation Narrative
Vegetation here is a medium-age montane alluvial floodplain forest in relatively good condition. Although exotics are present in considerable numbers, they are less dominant than in many other similar habitats and a good diversity of native herbs is present. This habitat probably floods briefly every 1-3 years. Herbaceous diversity in the plot may be related to nutrient-rich alluvial soils washed from the valley's extensive limestone and dolomitic slopes.
Plot located in narrow, alluvial floodplain along the Clinch River, 0.97 km (0.6 mi) southeast of Nash Ford and Rt. 645 bridge.
