Observation Narrative ? A rather dry (at least surficially) boulderfield with large, deeply piled greenstone blocks weathered from the Blackrock cliff above. Herbaceous density and species richness are greatly limited by the sparsity of humus and moss accumulations. Trees here are quite gnarled and show evidence of repeated ice and/or wind damage. Plot location: Shenandoah NP. Boulderfield between the Appalachian Trail and Blackrock, just SW of lodging facility complex.
