This dry-mesic oak-hickory forest occurs on a basic substrate and has impressive species-richness. Three oaks and three hickories share dominance in the stand, which also includes frequent Fraxinus americana and Liriodendron tulipifera associates. The herb layer is very diverse, with Parthenocissus quinquefolia, Desmodium glutinosum, D. nudiflorum, Cimicifuga racemosa, and Solidago caesia attaining highest cover.
Plot location: approx. 150m upslope (E) of Skyline Drive at a point 0.7 mi. NNE of Rockfish Gap.
