Observation Narrative
Open, stunted, diverse oak-hickory forest. Substrate is apparently base-rich. Lots of crown damage (wind/ice). Rocks at site are a reddish-brown, thinly bedded quartzite or metasiltstone. Horizontal slope shape is undulating, partly convex, partly concave - recorded as straight in environmental data. Immediately to the south, this forest grades into a very open Carya glabra-dominated woodland with dense herb layer dominated by Carex pensylvanica, Elymus hystrix var. hystrix, and Pycnanthemum incanum.
