Observation Narrative
GPS data could not be obtained, but the site was easily mapped using topographic features. This plot epitomizes the extraordinarily lush, mixed mesophytic forests of the Turkey Run Park lower, river-fronting slopes. Tilia americana dominates the overstory at this site, although Liriodendron tulipifera, Acer saccharum, Fagus grandifolia, Fraxinus americana, Ulmus rubra, Carya cordiformis, and Quercus rubra are associated (not all are overstory trees in the plot). The herb layer is noteworthy for its assemblage of nutrient-demanding forbs, including Caulophyllum thalictroides, Jeffersonia diphylla, Erigenia bulbosa, Mertensia virginica, Trillium sessile, and Dicentra canadensis.
