Observation Narrative
Mature white oak-beech forest on slightly sheet-eroded ravine slope. Large Quercus alba dominate the overstory, while Fagus grandifolia dominates all understory layers. The herbaceous flora is sparse. Huge numbers of Quercus alba, Acer rubrum, and Liriodendron tulipifera seedlings are present.
Leaf litter absent or less than 1cm throughout most of plot.
1 cm thick horizon of root-rich, organic, rich soil present throughout.
