This vegetation has the highest species richness (n= 103 per sq. m.) of any plot sampled in the Watery Mountains. Occupying a dry, rocky, convex, southwest-facing slope, it is characterized by an open physiognomy; somewhat stunted Fraxinus americana and Carya glabra; diverse shrubs, including Cercis canadensis var. canadensis, Celtis tenuifolia, and Ostrya virginiana; and a very diverse, graminoid-rich herb layer. The introduced shrub, Symphoricarpos orbiculatus is fairly common here and has become invasive at similar sites in the Watery Mountains.
