Plot location: 0.43 km SW of the summit of England Mtn.
Rock Types Present: small metabasalt outcrops and debris.
This plot is representative of extensive mixed oak and oak-hickory stands occurring on the poorer, subxeric soils of the Watery Mountains. Cornus florida, formerly the dominant understory species, has nearly been eliminated by anthracnose over the past 10-15 years. Mortality resulting from gypsy moth outbreaks in the early 1990s was locally severe on this slope of England Mountain, but this plot is located in an area where the canopy is intact.
