Observation Narrative
Plot location: 0.15 km NW of the summit of Halls Point.
Rock Types Present: large metabasalt outcrops, abundant bouldery colluvium.
This plot documents a Quercus rubra-dominated forest in a steep, bouldery concavity among greenstone breccia cliffs. Species richness is surprisingly high for such a rocky site. Aralia nudicaulis and Dryopteris marginalis are the most characteristic herbaceous species.
Soil Nutrient Status: medium
Very little accessible mineral soil at this site - interstitial among deeply piled boulders, stones, gravel; very fine, medium to yellow-brown loam; extremely stony.
