Plot location: 0.73 km S of the summit of Rappahannock Mtn.
Rock Types Present: abundant quartzite / metasandstone debris.
An oligotrophic oak/ericad forest dominated by Quercus alba, Quercus velutina, Quercus montana, Nyssa sylvatica (understory), and Vaccinium spp. An unusual feature of the convex, gently sloping, xeric habitat is the prevalence of quartzite debris, despite the fact that no quartzite interbeds are mapped in this area by Espenshade (1986). The base status of soils weathered from this material is among the lowest recorded in 59 plots from the Watery Mountains.
