Castanea dentata (American chestnut) was formerly a co-dominant in mixed stands on this slope. Canopy gaps created by chestnut blight have been filled by residual specimens of Liriodendron tulipifera, Quercus rubra, and Quercus montana along with a younger cohort of Carya spp. Soils here are relatively fertile herbaceous growth is patchy but floristically diverse.
