Observation Narrative
Narrow seepage zone along braided headwaters stream in TA 22B of Fort A. P. Hill. Vegetation composition is typical of acidic, forested seepage swamps of the Coastal Plain. An old road runs through the west end of the plot, but is now overgrown with typical swamp plants. A colony of Helonias bullata occurs nearby in an adjoining seep (tributary to main stem).
Deep organic matter and peat throughout most of plot. Difficult to obtain soil sample. Soil is saturated, dark brown, slightly sandy loam (creek bed is sandy).
Composite sample of 3.
