Observation Narrative
Plot documents an oak- and sedge-dominated swale in the back part of the floodplain along Swift Creek, about 160 m from the main channel. The understory is very sparse, giving the stand a savanna-like appearance. Medium-size Quercus palustris dominate the overstory, with occasional Q. michauxii and Q. phellos (outside plot). The herb layer is generally dominated by Carex typhina, C. tribuloides, and C. stipata var. stipata, with the muckiest hollows patch-dominated by the forbs Saururus cernuus, Mimulus alatus, Murdannia keisak, and Peltandra virginica.
