Observation Narrative
This plot is located at the back edge of the Willis River floodplain, just downstream from its confluence with Rock Point Creek. The site is low, but not a "backswamp". There is no evidence of prolonged standing water. Hydrophytic oaks are absent from the general area, except for a single Quercus shumardii on the river levee, ca. 50 m NE of the plot. Forest vegetation in and around the plot is dominated by Platanus occidentalis, Fraxinus pensylvanica, Carpinus caroliniana, and various sedges.
