Observation Narrative ? Vegetation in plot is representative of an extensive oak/heath forest that covers the higher uplands in the eastern part of Lake Anna State Park. Overstory dominance is variable, shifting among Quercus alba, Quercus montana, Quercus coccinea, and mixtures of these species; the plot represents an area in which Quercus alba is strongly dominant. Oak recruitment is generally poor and Acer rubrum is overwhelmingly dominant in the understory. True herbaceous plants are nearly absent from this floristically depauperate forest.
