Note: the digital geologic map unit (sp - Swamp deposits) is incorrect and does not account for deep sand deposits that form the dunes in First Landing/Seashore State Park.
Plot is located on large complex of high, relict dunes along the eastern edge of the park. Here, open sandy areas with Hudsonia tomentosa and Schizachyrium littorale are interspersed with Pinus taeda woodlands. The most protected areas have groves of Quercus virginiana. Some of the larger galls and blow-outs on this dune appear to have anthropogenic origins. The plot captures an open pine woodland and adjacent sandy openings that appear to be natural.
