Note: the digital geologic map unit (sp - Swamp deposits) is incorrect and does not account for deep sand deposits that form the dunes in First Landing/Seashore State Park.
Plot captures the short slope (lower slope to crest) of a small, south-facing dune ridge between two extensive swamps. The vegetation, with Osmanthus americanus and Ilex opaca completely dominating a dense understory and Mitchella repens exceptionally abundant in the herb layer, represents the mesic end of the gradient for maritime forests in the park.
