Observation Narrative
Plot location: about 1.6 km S30 degrees E of Cashville. About 30 m west of plot ESW04 (ACCO014). An open Cephalanthus scrub community occupying a short section of a meandering swale which mostly supports savanna-like woodland or forest. Plot ESW-4 (ACCO014), 30 meters to the east, is representative of the woodland. This community appears to be somewhat lower than the woodland, and wetter (water table at ca. 1.2 m depth on 8/10/95). The overall microtopography here is flat with scattered depressions. Care striata is notably more robust in this community than in the woodlands and forests nearby, and at "The Lake" near Hallwood. This was the only occurrence of this community that I observed at either site.
Note: Bryophyte cover consisted of Sphagnum macrophyllum (cover 2), and S. cf. fallax (cover 3).

The whole area was logged some decades ago but there is not evidence of stumps in immediate vicinity; there are several old downed logs in plot, and trace of what may be an old road running across plot.
