Observation Narrative
The plot is characteristic of dry-mesic, medium-age mixed oak forest on the middle slopes of Feathercamp Ridge. Tall, straight, white and chestnut oaks are prevalent in the canopy, but little oak recruitment is present. Red maple and white pine are heavily invading the understory, probably due to fire exclusion. Sourwood and lowbush blueberries are also characteristic of the understory. Vegetation is characteristic of an intermediate slope zone between dense, xerophytic oak/heath upslope and acidic cove forest downslope.
