Observation Narrative
Steep, northwest-facing upper slope of Straight Mountain, supporting an even-aged forest dominated by clean-boled red oak in the canopy, Acer rubrum and Acer pensylvanicum in the understory, and ferns in the herb layer. This stand probably regenerated after clearcutting decades ago. Low cover and lack of flowering individuals of forbs is probably due to heavy herbivory by white-tailed deer.
