Description: This mesic sand forest may be found in the midwestern United States in central Illinois. Stands are thought to have occurred mainly on the slopes of sandy river terraces along the Illinois and Mississippi rivers. The dominant species in the tree canopy may be Acer saccharum, Quercus alba and Quercus rubra.
