Description: Perennial- and annual-dominated sand flats on upper ocean beaches, within the reach of storm tides and extreme lunar tides. Stands are dominated by Ipomoea pes-caprae and Cakile lanceolata. Other characteristic species include Chamaesyce mesembrianthemifolia, Sporobolus virginicus, Paspalum vaginatum, Suaeda linearis, and Sesuvium portulacastrum. In southeastern Florida this community also includes the trailing forbs, Okenia hypogaea and Alternanthera maritima.
