Description: This habitat is characterized by soft, unconsolidated sediments that serve as a substrate for burrowing fauna, and for deposit feeders, a food source as well. It supports a diversity of invertebrates such as bloodworms (Glycera dibranchiata), mud crabs (Panopeus sayi, Hexapanopeus angustifrons, Rhithropanopeus harrisi, Eurypanopeus depressus), amphipods (Aeginella longicornis and others), blue crab (Callinectes sapidus), polychaete worms such as red-lined worms (Nephtys incisa), and other fauna.
