Grasslands in this Chihuahuan Desert alliance are dominated by the perennial shortgrass ~Bouteloua eriopoda$, with a sparse xeromorphic shrub canopy of one or more of the following shrubs: ~Ayenia microphylla, Dasylirion wheeleri, Ephedra torreyana, Ephedra trifurca, Parthenium incanum$, and/or ~Yucca elata$.
