Name: A.1605
Reference: EcoArt 2002
Description: This alliance occurs in subalpine meadows in the mountains of western Wyoming. Elevations range from 2170-3350 m. Stands occur in moist areas, often on lower slopes near snow drifts that are saturated from snowmelt and remain moist most of the growing season. Aspects are often north- to east-facing. Stands have a moderately dense, medium-tall herbaceous layer that is dominated by perennial forbs, typically ~Lupinus argenteus$ which averages 15% cover. ~Fragaria virginiana$ or ~Symphyotrichum foliaceum (= Aster foliaceus)$ may codominate. Associated perennial forbs include ~Achillea millefolium, Potentilla gracilis, Geranium viscosissimum, Eurybia integrifolia (= Aster integrifolius)$, and less commonly ~Ligusticum filicinum$ and ~Delphinium X occidentale$. Graminoids, such as ~Elymus trachycaulus, Bromus carinatus, Melica spectabilis, Trisetum spicatum$, and ~Festuca idahoensis$, are common. Some stands form a short herbaceous layer dominated by ~Poa$ spp. with ~Geum rossii$, the cushion forb ~Arenaria congesta$, and other species.
