Description: Vegetation in this alliance occurs on rocky, talus slopes in the alpine tundra in the Colorado Front Range. Strong westerly winds are common in the winter and spring. Stands are found in the lower alpine tundra between 3350-3450 m elevation on unstable, moving scree slopes. Stands are usually located on south-facing slopes on warm, dry microsites. The ground is covered with cobble-sized rocks and is nearly blown free of snow in the winter. Soils are young and poorly developed. The majority of the ground surface is covered with rock with the vegetation occurring in patches between the rocks. ~Cirsium scopulorum$ and ~Polemonium viscosum$ are the dominant species. ~Phacelia sericea, Campanula rotundifolia, Heuchera parvifolia var. nivalis$, and ~Trisetum spicatum$ are common associates. Moss cover is very sparse due to the dry, rocky substrate.
