Description: This stream-scoured grassland varies in density from very open to dense. Woody shrubs and trees may occur as scattered individuals, and may include Platanus occidentalis, Salix nigra, Juglans microcarpa, Chilopsis linearis, Baccharis neglecta, and Baccharis salicifolia. The dominant stratum is the herbaceous stratum, and characteristic species are Panicum virgatum, Andropogon glomeratus var. pumilus, Cladium mariscus ssp. jamaicense, Fuirena simplex, and Rhynchospora colorata (= Dichromena colorata). Other species may include Eleocharis montevidensis, Eleocharis geniculata (= Eleocharis caribaea), Solidago altissima, Eupatorium serotinum, Schizachyrium scoparium, Bothriochloa ischaemum var. songarica (exotic), Arundo donax, Polanisia dodecandra, Ratibida columnifera, Senna lindheimeriana, and Indigofera lindheimeriana. This community occurs on periodically scoured flat-bedded limestone shores of perennial streams in the Edwards Plateau and Stockton Plateau. Herbs are rooted in cracks and in soil mats.
