Name: Populus angustifolia / Salix ligulifolia - Shepherdia argentea Woodland
Reference: Western Ecology Working Group of...
Description: This riparian woodland has an extremely limited distribution in western Colorado. Historically, it was more widespread and common in broad river valleys. Overutilization by livestock and alterations in the river flow regime have caused a decline in its distribution. Stands have and open, broad-leaved deciduous tree canopy dominated by Populus angustifolia with a broad-leaved, deciduous shrub layer codominated by Salix ligulifolia and Shepherdia argentea.
