Name: Pseudoroegneria spicata - Poa fendleriana Herbaceous Vegetation
Reference: Western Ecology Working Group of...
Description: This plant association is typically found on bald, wind-swept ridgetops between 8000-10,000 feet in elevation. Soils are shallow and gravelly, classifying as Lithic Cryoborolls. The vegetation in this community is very sparse. Pseudoroegneria spicata, Poa fendleriana, and Koeleria macrantha are constant associates in this association. Shrubs are commonly absent, if they are present it is in very low numbers. Shrubs that may occur with very low cover include Artemisia tridentata ssp. wyomingensis, Chrysothamnus viscidiflorus, Ericameria nauseosa (= Chrysothamnus nauseosus), Artemisia frigida, and Tetradymia canescens. Forbs often associated with this community are Castilleja flava and Potentilla concinna. The plant association is known only from slopes adjoining Middle Park, Colorado. There is no field inventory information available at this time. Similar stands have been reported in Wyoming.
